Ronal Danilo Sandoval-Campos of Purdys has been sentenced to 30 years in state prison after being found guilty on eight counts related to sex crimes dating back to 2016, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., announced on Tuesday. He must also register as a sex offender upon his release.

At approximately midnight on June 3, 2016, Sandoval-Campos broke into a Mount Kisco home and climbed on top of a 42-year-old sleeping woman, sexually attacking her, according to the indictment. During the struggle, she took a gray baseball hat off his head as he was fleeing the scene.

On Aug. 21 that year, a 19-year-old arrived at the Purdys Metro-North station at approximately 8 a.m. As she walked through the station, she was approached by Sandoval-Campos, who attempted to speak with her. She ignored him, walking toward a footpath that leads to Route 116.

Sandoval-Campos grabbed the teenager as she reached the footpath, restrained her on the ground, groping her and attempting to take her clothes off while exposing himself. A passerby heard her screaming and prevented her rape, Scarpino said. While he was fleeing, Sandoval-Campos dropped an orange baseball hat that he was wearing during the attack.

DNA results conducted from each cap recovered from the crime scenes were entered into CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) and the cases were linked to each other, establishing Sandoval-Campos as the sole suspect of both incidents.

Sandoval-Campos was arrested on Sept. 9, 2016.

He was found guilty by a jury in July of burglary, burglary as a sexually motivated offense and two counts each of first-degree attempted rape, third-degree attempted rapes and sexual abuse.

In court, one of Sandoval-Campos' victims called him "the monster that changed my life forever." In a victim's impact statement, she said that she wished that should could "erase the memories of being sexually assaulted, violated in the one place you should feel safe." “

"As an educator of students with severe developmental and psychiatric disabilities, I am trained to handle and de-escalate crisis situations. But I was never prepared for something like this.

"I wish I could erase the memories of being sexually assaulted, violated in the one place you should feel safe,” she said. “The aftermath of that terrifying experience caused me great emotional turmoil. I no longer felt safe in my own home.

"I became so hyper-vigilant of everyone around me and no longer trusted anyone. Not only did you impact my life negatively, your actions also affected my family, my career, my students and my friends. They all had to watch me suffer.”

Addressing Sandoval-Campos directly, she added, “Ronal, you are a danger to society and do not deserve the privilege of walking amongst us freely.

"You are sick, and I don’t believe that you have any remorse for your actions. Therefore, you belong in prison.”
